The Team.

The role of The Dental Team at the Deanery is to enhance the quality of patient treatment, and the patient experience. This is achieved by managing and providing supportive, quality assured education and development, for the whole dental team.

The Department of Postgraduate Dental Education is responsible for the delivery, monitoring and management of postgraduate education training, for all members of the dental team working within the NHS in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. The office in the KSS Deanery acts as a hub for the administrative activities concerned with:

  1. The overall management and delivery of dental foundation training, year one (DF1), this includes General Dental Practice and the Salaried Services. The courses are co-ordinated by the Programme Directors and the Associated Dean for Foundation (DF1) Training, within the Kent Surrey and Sussex areas.

  2. Recruitment and management of education for Dental Foundation trainees within Secondary Care (DF2), in conjunction with the regional Trusts. Educational Supervisors are assigned to each DF2 and managed by the Associate Dean for Secondary Care.

  3. Programme management of Specialist Registrars training in the dental specialities and the Speciality Training Committees, which although commissioned with the London Deanery -  the KSS Deanery is involved in those rotations within Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

  4. Organisation, delivery and evaluation of an extensive programme of CPD courses organised locally in postgraduate centres and study days run centrally. 

  5. A programme of education and training is run for DCPs. Courses for individual groups and multi-professional courses cover all the GDC and PCT targeted training requirements.

  6. Lastly, the team are involved with the organisation, delivery and evaluation for the Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, in conjunction with the FGDP (UK), which leads to a registration with the GDC.
