KSS Deanery in association with Brighton & Sussex Medical School will be appointing to two Academic Clinical Fellows in General Practice for August 2012.

The Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) in General Practice is a 4 year specialty training post that incorporates 75% general practice clinical training and 25% research and educational training.  The first eighteen months of the placements are mainly hospital based but the Fellow would be encouraged to participate in Divisional Postgraduate Training activities whenever possible and to plan their academic training programme early in their appointment.  The remaining period of placements are split between clinical general practice (50% or a minimum of 18 months in accredited GP training practice) and academic training in Division of Public Health and Primary Care (50%).  The training as a GP Registrar will be in a local GP training practice which is active in teaching and research.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School is committed to providing first class postgraduate training which links clinical medicine to basic science and research.

Strong, internationally recognised research groups have been established in the fields of infectious diseases, immunity, international health, neuromuscular biology, oncology and primary care.

As well as attendance at the generic research training (credit bearing Masters degree course) trainees will benefit from learning the practical aspects of conducting research by joining the research team of an on-going study lead by a senior academic member of the Division.

The ACF will meet formally with Prof Helen Smith on a regular basis to review progress.  In house mentorship will be provided by a second senior academic within the Division.

For further information regarding the scheme please contact Professor Helen Smith (h.e.smith@bsms.ac.uk) or go to http://www.bsms.ac.uk/research/
