The KSS Specialty School of Psychiatry was set up at the end of 2007. The School is led by the Head of School Dr David Firth and supported by two Training Programme Directors, Dr Phil Hall and Dr Yousreya Amin.

The school of Psychiatry is responsible for the recruitment and training of roughly 56 posts and also ensures the training within KSS is delivered in line with the Royal College of Psychiatrists curriculum. We also have one Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) post based at Brighton.

The training year starts on the 1st Wednesday in August each year and trainees rotate in February with full comprehensive training in each of the placements offered. Core Trainees that have progressed successfully through to higher training in KSS then apply to a London/KSS Programme for ST4+ posts. In addition trainees also need to be aware of the college exam requirements for entry to HST.

All trainees within KSS will have an Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) in which they need to have met several requirements before progression onto the next stage of their training programme. We aim to ensure smooth running of the Psychiatry ARCP by good planning and evaluation from both trainee and trainer point of view.
