The Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) replaces the old ‘RITA’ process and is a mechanism of recording the review of a trainee’s progression through their training programme. The process is two-way and is also an opportunity for the Training Programme Director to establish whether a trainee’s requirements are being met.

Please note whether you started your training in August or December 2011 you will still be asked to complete an Interim Review prior to your ARCP by 31st May 2012

Revalidation

Preparations for revalidation are progressing and it has been decided by the GMC, following a national pilot with all deaneries, that the ARCP process will be the vehicle to achieve this. Please read 'frequently asked questions' here: http://kssdeanery.org/specialty/revalidation/FAQs

The purpose of an ARCP or Interim Review is to:

  • Review training to date, particularly since the previous ARCP,
  • Ensure that the future training will be of maximum benefit,
  • Identify any deficits in knowledge and skills,
  • Ensure that all requirements can be satisfied before completion of training programme,
  • Know that career plans are realistic.
  • Within KSS, our aim is for doctors and dentists in training to be safe, to develop the habits of ‘lifelong’ learning and to achieve appropriate standards of practice. By regulating the progress of doctors in training, the ARCP process protects patients and directs the training process.
  • Complete the Trainee Revalidation process
