New NHS Dental Portal

The dental portal is a new online service that will enable NHS primary care dentists to access information relating to their contract and the processing of their activity forms. Dentists will also be able to view and download copies of their monthly pay statements, schedules, superannuation notifications and quarterly and end of year reports. Secure access will be available 24/7 and all that’s needed to access the portal is an internet connection.

KSS Deanery has published a new Period of Grace (also known as 'Grace Period') guidance document. This is a guide for Specialty trainees approaching CCT, their trainers, Training Programme Directors and Heads of School.

This guidance document aims to set out the framework for the management of a KSS Deanery Specialty (excluding General Practice) managed trainee’s Period of Grace. This document is subject to change based on national decisions and will be updated accordingly.

All dental practices in England must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) before they can legally operate. The practices will need to be able to show that the services and care they provide are meeting essential standards of quality and safety and, they are committed to ongoing improvements. The CQC guidance is based on the outcomes that they expect people who use a dental practice to experience, if that practice is meeting the essential standards.

In October 2011 the GMC’s Postgraduate Board concluded that the current arrangements are unsatisfactory and that a minimum time requirement for LTFT should be re-established, with specialty trainees working no less than 50% of full time training.

Transfer of Deanery Management Responsibilities of

Higher Specialty Training & Run Through Trainees

Up until now the majority of Higher Specialist Training Programmes have been managed by the London Deanery through a joint KSS and London School / Specialty Training Committee structure. From August 2011 KSS Deanery will now manage its own higher specialty training programmes.

Change of name for the SEMMED Team

Following the introduction of the new hosting arrangements for Kent Surrey Sussex Postgraduate Deanery and subsequent establishment of its new Deanery Board, we have taken the decision to change the name of the South East Medicines Management Education & Development Team.

As from August 1^st the team will be known as Kent Surrey and Sussex Deanery Pharmacy Department. We believe that this is much clearer to stakeholders as it describes who we are, what we specialise in and what we are part of.

Simulation Leads Meeting - Worthing 7th July 2011

On 7th July we held the Simulation Leads meeting at Worthing.

The meeting was attended by over 35 delegates from across KSS representing every Trust. The afternoon consisted of presentations from both Specialty Leads and Trust Leads reporting the activity within simulation across the region.

It was a wonderful opportunity to hear what has been happening locally and regionally within simulation.
