Leadership Champions Year 2 (2010-2011)

Leadership Champions Year 2 (2010-2011)

Now in its second year, the Champions are invited to participate in a further five development days, but alongside continued development, the content of these days will focus on the Champions themselves and the way they are embedding leadership qualities into their local Trust.

Champions are implementing a range of initiatives including the development of a tool to aid the assessment of leadership competences through case-based discussions, developing an action learning set focusing on clinical leadership, working with foundation doctors to encourage them to lead events within their Trust such as social induction, developing leadership competencies through the use of simulation and many more.

All the initiatives developed by Champions will be published in “Leadership from the Ground Up” as a practical guide for embedding leadership skills and competencies within KSS Trusts.  This will be available late spring 2011.

The KSS School of Clinical Leadership has additionally tasked Champions with the implementation of leadership elements in the curricula and the assessment of these.  More specifically, the School has set each Trust the target of ensuring that every junior doctor has the opportunity to experience leadership and to have been assessed on their experience before the June/July 2011 Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP).  This target will be measured through a data collection exercise in which all Specialty Schools will participate.
