It is the Strategic Health Authority’s policy to ensure that simulation is used to develop the multi-professional teams that contribute to high quality healthcare and an integral part of the local curriculum in NHS Trusts across the region. Thus, KSS Deanery works closely with local education providers [LEPs] in the ongoing development of this provision.
Furthermore, our simulation provision has to overcome the challenges posed by operation across the large geographical area of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. In order to achieve these objectives, the KSS Deanery, operating on behalf of the SHA, operates a ‘mixed economy’ of simulation provision, which has three broad strands:
- The development of local simulation within NHS Trusts: this focuses on using the equipment that is already held in medical education centres and integrating it into curricula;
- The development of a distributed simulation training course: the Simulation and Faculty Education (SAFE) project. This uses specialists, to travel round and work with centres that are developing or enhancing their own provision;
- The development of specialty simulation initiatives, as overseen by the Simulation Steering Group. Colleagues are welcome to join the KSS Deanery Special Interest Group (SIG) for Simulation.
Simulation is considered to be a means of providing all Healthcare professionals with an experience of effective management of a patient throughout all stages of the patient pathway. It provides an experience that is grounded in practice and the realities of the workplace.
The KSS Deanery operates a Policy and Strategy for Simulation that is managed by Alison Gisvold Assistant Dean, Education
