Recruitment to a Specialty Post: Panel Members’ Information

Panel members must be familiar with recruitment processes and where to find further information before taking part in recruitment processes. This brief aide memoire for panel members recruiting should be read in conjunction with the above web page. Be aware that candidates have grounds for complaint if they can supply evidence that recruitment procedures have not been followed. Shortlisting- Each application form will be reviewed by a minimum of two clinicians in the relevant speciality, all of whom must have received equal opportunity and recruitment training. Panel members should note that specialty trainees may request their rank and score following the shortlisting and/or interview stage of the recruitment process. Once the forms are scored, a meeting will take place with a lay representative to review the scores awarded to applicants and to agree a shortlist. Interviewing - In all cases interviews will last for no less than 30 minutes and will comprise 3 x 10 minute interviews. Candidate references should be available to the panel to view at interview. Document checking is an important part of the interview process and candidates must have the following: Portfolio (including current curriculum vitae) (see also the Portfolio section lower down the page) Two passport photographs taken within the last 6 months (name on back) Original current GMC certificate plus two copies One copy of primary qualification certificate One copy of postgraduate qualification certificate (where applicable) One copy of 'other' qualifications (where applicable- see person spec) Original passport and two copies of the front cover and signature / photograph page. Original and copy of IELTS Exam results (including date taken). Additionally some candidates will need to confirm their eligibility to work in the UK in line with the current UK border Agency guidance at that time.If shortlisted, applicants will be required to produce their original documents (passports, page with the stamp and letter from the Home Office) on the day of their interview.
