Recruitment to a Specialty Post: Prospectus
The full specialty recruitment prospectus can be found here.
It is an online resource which includes a grid detailing current training opportunities, links to information about each of the specialty schools, information and maps about hospital sites and LEPs and the application, complaints and appeals procedure. The largest section of the online prospectus comprises the detailed information about how to apply. This section is designed to provide both information and guidance to the applicant. It contains guidance on interview preparation which lists typical interview questions and how to prepare to answer them. There is also a section on how and when to complete application forms and what to do once an offer is made. Processes such as short listing and specialty-specific variances in the processes are explained.
The SWT issue a reminder template in advance of the recruitment round each year and invite LEPs to update their online prospectus entries with information about their transport links, parking arrangements, local amenities, the LEP postgraduate centre, IT and Library facilities, the doctors’ mess and the achievements of the trust.
Individuals with key roles in specialty training such as TPDs and HoS must regularly review and update entries in the online prospectus with information about the training opportunities on offer, including shift patterns and rota description, the education and study schedule and details of the clinical lead and educational supervision. The chair and academic registrar in each LAB should periodically check that the online prospectus meets the information needs in their LEP and request that relevant colleagues update it if not.
