Supporting the Trainee in Difficulty
This practical half-day workshop will look at how best to support trainees who are in difficulty. You can also find information about the Deanery's Trainee in Difficulty service on the Trainee in Difficulty homepage.
The workshop is intended for those colleagues who are working as Educational Supervisors within the Foundation and Specialty Training Programmes. The sessions are conducted by KSS Deanery education advisers.
Who Should Apply
Consultant Educational Supervisors for either Foundation or Specialty Trainees.
Workshop Content
The following topics will be included in the workshop:
- Early warning signs – what to look out for
- Understanding trainees who appear to have an ‘insight bypass’
- What is the role of the educational supervisor?
- What relevant skills do clinicians have, from other aspects of their work?
- Who else can help?
- How to get the balance right between rigorous assessment and appropriate support
Participants will be invited to provide (completely anonymised) case studies of trainees in difficulty whom they have supervised. These case studies do not have to be of foundation trainees, as previous work with PRHOs and SHOs is also relevant.
